Jackie Elsas has been a resident of Northport since 1955. During her high school years, Mrs. Elsas worked at the Northport Public Library as a page. She attributes her decision to pursue a career in librarianship to the wonderful role models that she encountered at the library. During her 42-year career as a librarian, Mrs. Elsas held the positions of reference librarian, Head of Reference, and Assistant Dean for Reference Services. She and her husband Michael raised their two sons in Crab Meadow and Asharoken. The entire family was active in the Northport school system, and Mr. and Mrs. Elsas were given a lifetime membership in the PTA for their involvement throughout the years.
Mrs. Elsas says that she decided to run for the Library Board in 2015, “because I wanted to give back to our community and share my knowledge and expertise to help the Library continue to provide the high quality of service that is their hallmark. I have enjoyed my time on the Board and learned a great deal about the Library, its staff, administration, and operations by serving in every position on the Board.”
