A painting by the American abstract painter and photographer Stanley Twardowicz (1917-2008).  This painting was gifted to the library by his estate through the generosity of his wife Lillian Dodson in 2011.

Stanley Twardowicz became part of the beat scene in Manhat­tan and Northport, counting among his colleagues Jack Kerouac, Jackson Pollack, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. In the 1950s the Museum of Modern Art acquired one of his paintings and six of his photographs.  His work has been in major exhibitions including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Whitney Museum, the Chicago Art Institute, and the Guggenheim Museum. Mr. Twardowicz’s work has been acquired by private collections and museums such as the Joseph Hirschhorn Museum, the Fogg Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Milwaukee Art Center, and the Heckscher Museum.
