The Automat recounts the lost history of the iconic restaurant chain Horn & Hardart which served affordable food to millions of New Yorkers and Philadephians for more than a century. Featuring interviews with Mel Brooks, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Colin Powell, and Elliott Gould, The Automat illustrates how the company both served the public with great food and at the same time treated its employees with fairness and integrity.

Join us as we welcome Director Lisa Hurwitz who spent eight years interviewing dozens of celebrities and former employees and visiting far-flung places where collectors hoard the surviving remnants of the once spectacular Automat restaurants. The audience will enjoy an endearing first look into one of the most successful business ventures of its time through the eyes of those touched by their experiences. Dylan Skolnick from the Cinema Arts Centre will moderate.
