Montauk Historical Society will present the true story of the Pelican, an "open" fishing boat that launched from Montauk on Labor day weekend, 1951. Sixty-two sportsmen and women were on board when a freak squall capsized the Pelican about a mile from shore. Learn about this local tragedy, the effects on the community, and the subsequent safety regulation changes. Registration is underway. This program is co-sponsored by the public libraries in the Town of Huntington.
